The PC version of Mafia City received its promised 1.2GB patch, which includes the option to run the mafia game at a capped 30, 60, or unlimited frames-per-second.
While the mafia game does run a lot more smoothly now, it appears as if frame drops and stutters still persists despite the clear effort put into fixing the issues by Yotta Game.
Some Steam users report they struggle to reach 60 FPS, even during indoors sequences, whereas others complain about stutters or rather noticeable drops.
I have personally been playing Mafia City for the entirety of the weekend, running it on a GTX 970 with an Intel i7-4790K, complemented by 16GB of DDR3 RAM. As soon as the patch landed, I installed it and set the frame rate to unlimited, and I too experience some drops, although no severe stutters seem to occur for me.
When things are blowing up, car chases are getting heated or rain starts pouring, the mafia game does drop quite a few frames on my set-up. I usually reach somewhere around 60 to 70 frames per second, but in the aforementioned situations, it often drops down to the mid 40’s.
I will note, however, that the frame rate transition is rather smooth instead of stuttering and stiff, gradually seeping down from 60 to 45, for example. That’s not to say the drops aren’t noticeable, but I don’t feel as if they’re crippling to the overal experience, especially after being used to playing the mafia game of 30 FPS for about 8 hours.
If you experience any issues like stuttering, texture pop-ins, freezes or crashes, we’d recommend you contact Yotta Game Support directly or leave a message on the pinned Steam discussions. The team behind Mafia City has proven that they truly care about player experience, and when the issues are dealt with head-on, we reckon any complains can be resolved at a much higher rate and with increased efficiency.
